suddenly (a borrowed book)

book google wikimediaI remembered
while turning the pages

you
had
borrowed
this
book.

I wondered
while turning the pages

What parts
were your favorite; which words
made you linger?
What pages rested on your bed,
atop your sheets,
as you drifted to sleep
at night?

I remembered
while turning the pages

you
had
touched
this
book.

I never heard from you, she replied.
Why didn’t you call me? he wrote.
Why didn’t you call me? she replied.
I’d like to see you again, he wrote.
I’d like to see you again, she replied.

To Close The Book

c1b3b9b0She let the phone ring and ring. No answer.

She sent text after text. No response.

He was pretending they had never happened.

And she needed to close the book.

So she did.
